Melanie sits down with us to talk about her upcoming projects and her beauty tips and tricks.
Q: Thank you Melanie for joining us today! Let me first ask you the age-old question: what inspired you to pursue a career in acting?
A: Thank you for having me! I really don't remember ever wanting to do anything else. I talked about being an actress since I was little. It was really all I ever talked about. As I've gotten older and actually been doing it, it just reaffirms everything I always felt. I really love what I do.
Q: So, you're originally from beautiful Vancouver, BC. Have there been many lifestyle changes for you since moving down to Los Angeles?
A: Yes, Vancouver was such a wonderful place to grow up. I don't think you realize until you don't live there anymore. The mountains, the trees and the ocean...all in the same view. I miss the seasons and the fresh air! Los Angeles is great but it’s very dry here and the air has a lot more pollutants in it. Let's just say that my skin definitely noticed the difference.
Q: What do you miss most from Vancouver and wish you could bring back to Los Angeles?
A: I wish I could bring back the dewiness in the air. I might try and bottle it next time I'm there! Whenever I land in Vancouver that first breath of air is amazing. It just smells fresh.
Q: You have a lot of projects going on these days and such varied genres of film & television. Do you prefer working in one genre or another?
A: I don't prefer one genre over another. I like to feel like I'm flexing all my muscles. After every drama I feel like I need a comedy and vice versa. Every now and then I also get the urge to do something creepy. Growing up, horror movies were always my favourite. I really don't take myself too seriously and I think it's important to be able to laugh at the more "dramatic" stuff life throws at you.
Q: Suits is an incredibly popular show with a huge following of viewers. What has your experience been on set and with the cast?
A: Suits really is a television dream job. From the cast to the crew to the fans...just the most supportive, fun and down to earth people. I had a truly fantastic experience on that show. All the people involved really reflect the success of the show. The whole cast is just supremely talented. A total honour to go and play with them!
Q: Any new and exciting upcoming projects?
A: I'm working on something at the moment, and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say, but I am very excited about 2015!
Q: You've got such a busy film schedule and travel extensively between projects, yet you always look so fresh and youthful. Your skin and hair look amazing. What's your secret?
A: Thank you! For the most part, I try to keep it simple. I have a few things that I always do no matter what city I'm in. Sunscreen is number one, no matter what the weather is like outside. I wear it everyday. Drinking lots of water makes a difference in my skin and the way my body functions in general. I am also not a fan of blow dryers or curling irons for the hair-- I think my hair thanks me for it. One tip that I do have to share is the Mitsuwa Collagen Pure. I just pour the sachet into my favourite tea in the morning and I'm ready to go. My hair and nails feel stronger and my skin has never been better!
Q: Are there any other wellness rituals you stand by?
A: I am a firm believer in what you do for your body on the inside really reflects how you look on the outside. Most of the time I try to fuel myself with healthy and nutritiously-dense foods. Properly taking care of yourself isn't always easy to do, but when I'm healthy, I'm happy and when I'm happy, I am always at my best.
